Prof. Cemile Gökyayla
Prof. Dr. Cemile Gökyayla, with over 15 years’ experience, is a specialist in international commercial and investment arbitration. She has acted as counsel and arbitrator in numerous ad hoc and administered international arbitral proceedings under the UNCITRAL, ICC, DIAC, ICSID, TOBB and ITOTAM arbitration rules governed by many countries’ laws (including Swiss, German, Turkish, Yemeni, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Qatari, United Arab Emirates, Iraqi, Ethiopian and Romanian law).
She is particularly experienced in disputes arising from construction contracts (eg, infrastructure, building, road and energy projects) in Europe, Gulf countries, the Middle East, Africa and CIS countries financed by the European Union, the European Investment Bank, the Asian Development Bank, JBIC and the World Bank.
Prof. Dr. Gökyayla advises contractors and employers in international construction projects in Turkey and abroad. She also represents parties in Turkish court proceedings related to the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards and board judgments.
Prof. Dr. Gökyayla was a member of the Istanbul Arbitration Centre National Court and Advising Committee, and worked on the drafting of the Istanbul Arbitration Centre Arbitration Rules. She was acted as member of the subcommittee reviewing the articles regulating domestic arbitration in the Turkish Civil Code. She is a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR and National Committee.
